Information about 2 secret Android model smartphones by Acer can be seen in just about all the smartphone technology related blogs and forums. The source for this news is the handwritten diary by an Acer executive.
Apparently, it looks like they are planning to introduce 2 secret models on this year end or in the beginning of next year.
The secrecy has pretty much been gripping the imaginations of the smartphone fanatics around the world.
This handwritten diary by the Acer executive has turned out to be quite a landmark about their roadmap to the year 2009. I am not quite sure if this leaked out information goes against their company compliance protocols. It wouldn’t really be nice to see the news bearer of the world getting penalized ;-
There is no much information other than this diary photographs making the rounds on the Internet. As a matter of fact, this lack of information is kindling a lot of curiosity around the world. The information is based on written evidence and hence it cannot be totally overlooked as insignificant or just a rumor.
Even the information about Dell introducing MePhone and Microsoft joining hands with LG sounds like great news for the people waiting to buy the most advanced smartphones with WM OS this year.
That also means a huge possibility of the windows mobile OS taking a wider segment of customers in the market. As for now there is no further evidence to substantiate the information on the 2 secret Android model smartphones by Acer. We might just need to sit and wait for a few months more for the secrets to unfold. 4845

I reported recently that Apple would soon see some third party app stores vying for their business, and while I severely doubt they will be any real competition for the real app store, it seems the Windows Mobile market might face an interesting development... a handset maker also bundling a Windows Mobile device with their own App store, in this case Acer. This App store would be in addition to the standard one that will be bundled with Windows Mobile 7, which brings up quite a frightening notion: applications that will not only be OS specific, but will also be hardware specific.
I frankly find that the current number of application stores, combined with upcoming application stores is enough already, in fact, I think it is too much already. I understand though why each OS has its own system; both because of coding differences and because it increases user retention. But I believe a second app store on any device is just too much, and I dont really think the problem will be the users, but the developers themselves.
While the users may be conflicted about which application store to use, the developers are going to be the ones that make or break this idea. Developers will already have to develop for a myriad of platforms if they want to get their product widely distributed, and if the device already includes a platform they support, why would they develop the application for a second, redundant application store? Realistically, if the device supports application for either store, there is no reason for developers to release them on the proprietary one. This just seems like a poor attempt to hop on the app store bandwagon by Acer.

Well, some interesting news came about, apparently rumors of Acers venture into the mobile phone field have turned out to be true, but a surprisingly someone else is also jumping in on the Android bandwagon: Sony Ericsson.
"PARIS Reuters -Acer Inc, the worlds third-largest PC brand, plans to introduce a phone model running on Googles Android software this year, the head of its phone unit said on Wednesday.
The company plans to sell this year around 10 models, with all but one using Microsofts Windows Mobile software."
Unfortunately for Android fans, they dont seem very committed, and with ten phones coming out in one year, they seem to be focusing on the path of "quantity of quality", so dont expect any major change in trend from this budget manufacturer from transition from laptops to mobile phones. If the previous rumored release dates still hold any water, Acers first Android device will be available come September, so you still have a while to wait and anything could happen in the interim. Im honestly a bit shocked that they would focus on Windows Mobile so much, especially considering that Android could help their bottom line as they get started.
On the flip side, Sony Ericsson is also planning their own Android smartphone, according to a recent conference in Taiwan:
"Android is the new system; Sony Ericsson will experience as X1, the 100 percent all-out effort to launch its own style the wisdom of the Android phone, and when to launch the first Android phone, it will be "Android 2.0" version."
This could be a bit of a rumor, but this isnt the first time weve heard of SE planning on an Android device, and I doubt it will be the last. While the original article isnt very well sourced, the quote apparently came from marketing vice president Peter Ang, so its likely legitimate.
Using Android in their phones seems like a smart move on Sony Ericssons part due to non-existent licensing fees and removing the cost of software development almost entirely; but I have to wonder, by the time 2.0 is even available, will this company even be alive? Right now its just riding Sonys coat-tails, but they may cut off the leg before the gangrene spreads. It seems like the release of the Android 2.0 software isnt going to happen anytime soon, going off the current track record, its going to be a year or more, and then its probably going to be 3-6 months before any devices are released, it seems like SE is going to go bankrupt long before then if big-daddy doesnt keep throwing money at them. I suppose Android 2.0 could be closer than we think, but if so Google is keeping it well under wraps; but with a release date as "near future" Im not very optimistic.

The smartphone market is getting too crowded and thats no secret. Once reigning kings Research In Motion and Palm are prepared to fight it out with new entrants, namely from the computing industry.
Laptop sales are sliding and so is Dells and Acers market share. As consumers opt for a smartphone purchase and skip over laptops, they are making it loud and clear that they want something more compact for day-to-day activity. So, what are the computer manufacturers to do but to launch a smartphone. After all, they have to continue to please their shareholders and regain market-share right?
Dell hasnt dispelled rumors that it is working on a smartphone and Acer has already come up and said that a phone is in the works based on Googles mobile operating system, Android.
However, I have to wonder if this is the best move by these companies to join an already overcrowded bandwagon. BlackBerry, Palm, LG, HTC and Samsung have been working their butts of in developing great technology and products for the mobile smartphone consumer. Competing against these giants is no small feat. Apple, the one successful example of a computer manufacturer in smartphones, has proven that it is possible for an outsider to come into this tight market and make a place for itself.
With a singular device and operating system, the iPhone has propelled itself onto a level of its own. And I am sure the likes of Dell and Acer have taken note of this. Innovation will get you everywhere when it comes to smartphones and it is not necessarily technology. Imagine, people orgasm over the iPhone even today when it lacks basic features such as cut-copy-paste and mobile MMS for images readily available on other phones.
So, while it is true that the smartphone market is overcrowded, there certainly is room for anyone and everyone to join. Consumers are hungry for the next hot smartphone and the industry is still relatively young. In shaping the future of technology, which certainly will continue to be more and more mobile, I encourage Dell and Acer to take cues from consumer behavior and come up with a whole new generation of products beyond our imagination.

Well, this year seems to finally be really heating up, Acer has plans to release its first Android based device come September. It will definitely be interesting to see how this device shakes up for this smartphone newcomer. While there arent many details aside from it having a touch screen at this point that seems to be the expected norm for the platform, its nice to see even new manufacturers taking risks on a new platform.
