The Motorola Droid just came out and I’ve been played with it. Before you read any further let me tell you that I am a Droid user. Till today I didn’t realize just how cool my droid is and just how easy it is to use.
So, while I am on assignment to review the iPhone 3G which has some nice features, don’t get me wrong if I had to pick between the two phones, I would still go for the Motorola Droid. Reasons are mentioned below...
1. The OS, It’s not just a cool phone that uses Android, initially developed by Google and then later by the Open Handset Alliance, is a mobile operating system that runs on the Linux kernal and is geared to maximize performance for advanced web services, email, social network and entertainment. Android OS is really easy to use and that’s what makes it a great phone. It’s all common sense and once you turn on your Droid, no user manual is needed. All the icons and setting make sense. Imagine that! A phone that’s easy to use.
2. Motorola is just slightly thicker than an iPhone 3G and thinnest QWERTY slider keyboard, which is pretty usable and has a soft-touch rubberized finish, I’ve ever seen and am happy to have a device like the droid.
3. The Droid features high-speed 3G network and Wi-Fi support via Verizon, along with support for multimedia messaging, text messaging, and instant messaging via Google Talk and email support. Other handy features include voice-activated search and commands and web browser.
It just looks better than the iPhone 3G and this might seem like a superficial reason to pick the Motorola droid over the iPhone. The Motorola droid design is impressive and good looking.
So, I know that some people say, you cant have everything in life, but surely there must be some very attractive engineer out there who can give us everything in a few square inches of Mobile Phone.

No matter who you are or where you’re going, there are always a couple of things we all need before heading out the door. Besides keys, we’re all sure to have in our possession our mobile phone and plastic, i.e. credit/debit cards and I.D.’s. Seems fairly simple……. and thanks to Case-Mate’s Barely There I.D. case for the iPhone 3G & 3G S, things just got a whole lot simpler!
Case-Mate’s Barely There I.D. Case is an uncomplicated way to protect your iPhone 3G or 3G S all while safely and conveniently carrying around a few credit cards. Its phone protection and a wallet in one simple solution. The case…… an ever so stylish metallic, impact resistant flexible plastic shell, boasting an extremely slim profile. The case features exact cutouts to your camera lens, volume controls, vibrate switch, charge port, power button and audio jack. The back as well as the corners of your iPhone 3G/3G S are protected by said shell. And don’t you worry your pretty little head about the front of your iPhone, because the included full-face screen guard will no doubt do the trick. The entire installation process is trouble-free and trust me, with the case on, you’ll know exactly why they call it the “Barely There Case.”

The back shell features the opportune I.D/ credit card slot, extending the case a whopping 2.5 mm. You can effortlessly slide up to 2 credit card sized necessities into the slot for safe keeping. Throw the case in your bag or pocket, flip it upside down and show it who’s boss and those cards will not fall out. Ergonomics are key here with a comfy cutout to the bottom for your thumb to help in retrieval of your cards. The grooves up top also help with traction, for a smooth one handed maneuver.

But wait there’s more! Just in case there is the slightest inkling of a piece of plastic scratching the back of your iPhone, Case-Mate has included EZ Slide Film. This protective membrane fits nicely over the back of your iPhone, protecting the area that comes in contact with your credit cards. This film in black and in white ensures no damage is done to your device.
This is the future, combining form and function, to create and produce things that are less invasive yet highly effective in our day to day lives. And with a fresh and innovative design Case-Mate leads us there. Go ahead, throw out your wallet and kiss that bulky leather case good-bye, you won’t be needing them where we’re going. So whether you’re heading out to work or out to play, you can make your life a little less complicated with Case-Mate’s Barely There I.D. Case.

Theres been rumors going around that Verizon Wireless has decided not to carry the Palm Prestarting in 2010 after all. They were supposed to be the second wireless carrier in the US to get the WebOS device. While many people wonder if this is going to be the straw that breaks the camels back for Palm really none of us should be so surprised at this news.
Sales of the Palm Pre have been sluggish since it launched in June of this year and the hyped up competition from new comers like Android OS devices really doesnt help much does it? It splits up the market even more and consumers really have choices. There are also great Nokia products in the market as well as old standbys like BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices.
Where does that leave Palm? Well, for one thing Palm repeatedly said prior to the launch that the Pre was not an iPhone competitor and I fully agree to this statement. While many people have tried to compare the two devices, in my opinion, theres simply no competition. Apple is what it is and it is good at making consumer electronics. They perfected the iPod and have worked very hard in the last 3 years to ensure that the iPhone will keep on getting better and better.
And thats where the key lies: they are focusing in only on 1 device. Apple simply cannot afford to spread their OS across multiple device platforms and dilute their resources and revenue. Meanwhile, manufacturers like HTC or Palm or BlackBerry are left struggling to introduce new models to the market regularly.
At the end of the day, indeed Palm might be late to the table. And while they have already decided to cut ties with Microsofts Windows Mobile platform I dont know that WebOS, which is in its infancy, can take over the market share that Apples iPhone has been able to. Sure, Palm is raising additional cash but they should also think seriously about who they want to carry this phone. Is it teenagers? Is it executives and middle management? I certainly hope for Palm sake that these Verizon rumors are not true, especially given the likelihood of the iPhone coming to Verizon next year as well.

Rhapsody has finally introduced their much-anticipated mobile app! It enables existing Rhapsody subscribers to access 8+ million songs via their iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Many people were wondering if this app would pass the big brother test that Apple gives to so many of its apps that compete directly with its existing services in this case - iTunes, but apparently Rhapsody sailed right through within a month or so of submitting the app for review.
The app is free to download from the Apple App Store. For those who do not yet have a subscription to Rhapsody $14.99/month you can sample the service free for seven days on your iPhone before being required to purchase.
Subscribers can create playlists, add new tracks to their music libraries and purchase MP3 music files directly from their devices with the Rhapsody app. They also can buy subscriptions to Rhapsody via the devices, which are made by Apple.
Rhapsody is the first on-demand streaming music application available through the Apple App Store in the U.S., Lunsford says. RealNetworks is planning to make Rhapsody available on more platforms later this year, he adds.

Indulging in reading on your mobile devices while moving is going to bite your pockets albeit a little if Wall Street Journal goes ahead with its plans to charge for mobile content access. Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp. made an announcement to this effect.
The charges will be only $1 a week for mobile Web access for subscribers to the Journal’s print edition and $2 weekly fee if you are a non-subscriber. Wall Street Journal offers online content to 1 million online subscribers.
After the launch of its free mobile news app or “Mobile Reader”, it followed it up with a free app for BlackBerry phones and then the iPhone. Charging for the news stories is the latest from the company.
This step to monetize online news is for reducing dependence on the print edition, maybe a green initiative or maybe to increase revenues lost due to less advertising income also.
The journal already charges for accessing news on its Web site which has been a successful model so far. Readers subscribing to the newspaper’s Web site can access the news on their phones with no charges if using a mobile browser to navigate to the material.
Also News Corp may charge for watching movies and TV shows on Hulu.com which is an Internet entertainment service too, if some sources are to be believed.

Now it seems like theyre changing their mind and have decided to charge for the news stories. How many free subscribers will be converted to paid remains to be seen.
