I don’t know if I could say that the LG Dare is the best competitor of the iPhone. Ive done a full comparison before which you can read here. I can confidently say that the LG Dare is one of the best competitors out there. Of course you have the Blackberry Storm that has many competitive features when compared to the iPhone. Then you have the T-Mobile G1 which is a very high tech smartphone. There is also the Samsung Instinct, Blackberry Curve, Samsung Behold, and the Blackberry Bold. These are all great competitors of the iPhone.
In some ways, the LG Dare has the same competitiveness as the other smartphone, but at the same time it has some features that I would say are better. For one, it has a section specifically made for the top nine people that you keep in touch with the most. Another thing that it has is an accelerometer, which is used for mostly all functions of the phone. The non-touch screen phones don’t have an accelerometer. Then you have all of the similar features, like the 3.2 MP camera, MP3 Player, Media Center and the Full HTML Browser. I am very confident in saying that the LG Dare is one of the best competitors’ of the iPhone in the market.

For those of you who like mobile games, the LG Dare might or might not be the best for you. I mean, you would think that the Dare would incorporate the accelerometer in most, if not all of the games. Most of the action type games have a virtual directional pad and an action button. This tends to space on the screen. None of the games that I’ve seen are able to toggle back and fourth from sideways to right side up. It’s only one way or the other. Another thing that’s a bit annoying is how the games that use the touch screen are not as responsive as having an actual keypad to control the game. One thing that really grinds my gears is how the minimum price for a game is about $5 and up to $12 and you don’t even know if the game is going to be good or not until you purchase it.
Although there are some good things about having games on the LG Dare. I suggest getting the non action type games like Tetris or Pool Pro Online. You can have a lot of fun and make time go by quick. It’s also pretty cool to just play a game and listen to the sounds of the games through a pair of headphones, but the only thing is that you can’t listen to music while playing a game. I have Tetris and Pool Pro online and I highly recommend them to anyone that has an LG Dare. They come in handy when waiting in a long line or simply just bored.
As far as Data usage goes, if you have Verizon Wireless, then you will definitely want to get the Unlimited Data Package which is called Vcast Vpack. With this, you can browse through the games for as long as you want. It cost about $15 per month. It also allows you to surf the web and look at Vcast Videos for as long as you want. With out this, you will be charged $1.99 per KB. So please don’t get ripped off and get the Vcast Vpack.

Well, there is so much to say when it comes to the new LG Versa compared to LGs prior model of the Dare. When the Dare first launched, everyone basically had the choice of upgrading to an LG Dare or an LG Voyager. If you were more of a texting person and wanted the ability of watching live TV, then the Voyager was the best choice for you. But if you wanted a slightly bigger touch screen and a 3.5 mm head phone jack then the Dare was the right choice. Now, the Versa has launched and its time to take a look at how it compares against other LG devices.
When it comes to the new Versa, I’m excited. Although at the same time Im disappointed. Did everyone wish the Dare had a physical QWERTY keyboard...yes. Do they wish that it had Mobile TV....yes! Do they with that there headphone jack would be smaller...I highly doubt that.
Don’t get me wrong, the Versa seems to be an OK phone, but when it comes to being compared to the Dare, I’m afraid that it might not be all that great. Heres a list of some features I compared and looked at:
1. Yes, it may have a detachable QWERTY keypad, but it just looks awkward when is comes to functionality. I think that the phone would be too top heavy and uncomfortable to hold while writing.
2. Sure you may be able to watch movies on the phone, but just like the Dare, the Versa is not equipped with mobile TV.
3. Then there is the camera issue. The Dare has a 3.2 megapixel camera and the Versa only has a 2.0 megapixel Camera. The only thing going through my mind is......WHAT? Serious disappointment needless to say...
4. Lastly, we have the Headphone Jack. Why would they go from a 3.5 mm jack to a 2.5mm headphone jack? It just does not make sense to me.
All in all, I still think the Versa is a highly versatile phone being that it has 3 customizable home screens but it still has those major flaws that I could only imagine that it wont be the best mach for the LG Dare. The Versa is said to be the improved version of the LG Dare. If it were up to me, I would have made the Dare to have the same Clam Shell Design of the LG Voyager or the LG Envy 2 and just call it "LG Dare II".

Defects and glitches can be the most annoying things when it comes to having a top notch smartphone but it is todays reality. Here is a simple run down list of the most commonly reported problems for the LG Dare and quick fix solutions.
1. Texting
When the phone launched in July, 2008, there were a lot of problems with texting. For example, when you press the T button on the QWERTY keyboard, the letter R would pop up. That could be really annoying. There are two solutions to this problem. First you can calibrate the touch screen and if that doesn’t work, you can take the phone to the Verizon Wireless store to get a FREE Software Update. That’s what I did and I haven’t had a problem ever since.
2. Phone Turns On & Off
There had been an outstanding amount of reports of the Dare turning off and on. Out of all the 5 different phones that I ever had, I never came across this kind of problem. The first time for me was with the LG Dare. Ever since I got the phone, it would periodically turn off and on. Sometimes I would be browsing on the web and I would be rudely interrupted by the phone turning off by itself. I just assumed that the phone was supposed to do that, but I asked Verizon Wireless costumer service, and they said that it’s not normal. So, they told me to take my phone to the local store and get the software updated and if that didn’t work, they would send me a Free Replacement. To make a long story short, I ended up getting a Free Replacement. Now my phone stays on just like it’s supposed to.
3. Echo during a call
I haven’t heard of any other reports like this, but I have definitely experienced this problem myself. The phone would echo sometimes during a call. For example, I would here an echo of my own voice right after I was done speaking. This was the most annoying thing that I have ever experienced. So I called customer service and they told me to do the same thing. Get the Software update and if that didn’t work, they would send me a free replacement. So I went ahead and did the software updated and I haven’t had that problem since.
Despite all the minor problems of the LG Dare, I really must say that it is the best smartphone. I also feel the same way about Verizon Wireless because they really do care and make sure that all of there customers are 100% SATISFIED.
Long story short, those software updates really do make a difference so get them if you havent already and never hesitate to contact your customer service with any defects/problems.

Well, I’ve had my LG Dare ever since it came out, and it has never crashed. I was curious to know if any other LG Dare users have had problems with crashing, so I called 611 from my Dare and pushed 0 to talk to a customer representative. I asked if anyone had problems with there LG Dares and the representative said that she has never heard of that happening to the Dare. That made me feel good because I have a Dare. One thing she did say though is that if you phone starts to show any symptoms of defects, that Verizon Wireless would replace it for free.
I already had to get a free replacement because my phone was showing some defects. The first things it started to do was it would turn off and on periodically. Then, some times when I would make a phone call, I would hear an echo of my own voice.
I went ahead and called customer service and told them that I need a replacement. The representative told me to upgrade my software first and if it still did the same thing, they would send me a free replacement.
So, I got the software upgrade, and sure enough it steel kept doing the same things, turning of and on, and it would still echo during calls. Then I called customer service and told them what happened and they sent me a free replacement with the newest v06 software. I haven’t had any problems ever since. After all said and done, I have to say that I am pleased to know that if anything else goes wrong, I can just get a free replacement.

Heres a quick run down of the top 5 best features of the LG Dare smartphone.
1. The camera is one of the best features of the phone. It has a 3.2 mega pixel lens with flash. Every picture it takes is so clear. It also has tons of editing options. Ive never even seen a regular camera with all of the Dares editing options. I always put all of the pics from my phone to my computer.
2. The Camcorder is one great feature that I use a lot. It really comes in handy especially having kids. I don’t always have a camcorder with me, but I do always have my phone. Just like my pictures, I can put all of my videos on to my computer and have them forever.
3. Having a full HTML Browser in the palm of your hand is just wonderful. With an unlimited data plan you can surf the web as much as you want. I mostly use mine to check and reply to emails, and look at other cool websites like You Tube or MySpace.
4. The Favorites feature is one feature that I have never seen on any other phone. This feature is one of the five main Icons on the home screen. It is located to the right of the message, dial pad, main menu, and phone book icons. You can store up to 9 people that you talk to the most. If you have a picture id for each one, it shows the picture in a little square for each one. This is the quickest way to make a call or send a text message. It’s also fun because you can drag the one of the pictures to the phone icon or the text icon.
5. Last but not least we have the mp3 player. I have an 8 gb Micro SD card for my phone so I can store more than enough music to listen to. The mp3 player is great especially with having touch screen. I can easily scroll up and down music with the flick of my finger. You can also create several different play lists. The thing that I love most about this mp3 player is how it uses the accelerometer. When the phone turns side ways, it shows the album art of the previous, current and the next song. When the phone is upside down, the screen will flip to be right side up. I would have to say that the mp3 player is my favorite feature of this phone.

There are so many things that you can do on an every day basis with the LG Dare. Not only can you make calls and send messages, you can do so many things in the tools section alone. There are 10 different things to choose from, like the calculator, calendar alarm clock, stop watch, note pad, drawing pad and more.
My personal favorite is the drawing pad. You draw with different colors and different pen and eraser sizes. I like how you can edit any picture in the phones library, then draw something right on top of the picture and you can also send it as a picture message.
Another really creative thing that you can do is cut and paste any video that you have taken with your phone or you can pick five different spots of a video to save as pictures. When I say cut and paste, I mean that you can choose a part of the video that you want to cut out then you can paste it straight to the part of the video that you want to cut in.
When you save five spots as pictures, you can also send them out as picture messages or set them as wallpapers.
The LG Dares camera can also do some really cools things, like using the multi shot, different frames or selecting different scenes. My favorite is how you can use the multi shot. It gives you the choice of taking 3, 6, or 9 shots at a time. This is great for those hard to get shots. All in all, the LG Dare is one of the most fun phones that you can have.

Smartphones prices are dropping daily. The BlackBerry Storm & the Samsung Omnia are very cheap over at Verizon Wireless but why is the LG Dare still so high at $179? I can’t help but wonder, has the sales of these two smartphones just suddenly plummeted so bad that they dropped their prices?
In case your missed it, currently the Blackberry Storm is selling for $199 after a mail in rebate and you can get any other blackberry for free. Also, recently the Samsung Omnia went on sale for only $99 after a mail in rebate. Meanwhile, the LG Dare price is holding steady at $179.
My only guess for the LG Dare is maybe Verizon Wireless met their sales goal and don’t feel the need to drop the price the LG Dare. Or that the device just isnt up for any more subsidies. Whatever the reason is I think that it’s all good for people that need a smartphone but can’t afford an expensive one although its kind of a downfall for people that just want a simple touch screen phone like the LG Dare.
So I went ahead and called the Verizon Wireless customer service and asked them why the Storm and Omnia are so cheap. They told me it’s just a promotional sale that’s going on right now for Verizon. When I asked how long this promotion will last the representative said that she wouldn’t be able to tell me. They never know when a new promotion is going to start or end.
However, she reminded me that the only bad part about buying one Blackberry Storm and another Blackberry for free, is that your second line has to be eligible for an upgrade. Although, if you only have one line you can add a line at any time, so why not do it for this special promotion....
As for the Omnia, I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want this phone for the great price of only $99!
Long story short, the LG Dare is definitely has some competition over at Verizon.

I’m more excited than anyone to know that the LG Versa will be coming out soon... tenative launch date is March 1. The looks of the phone is very similar the LG Dare. It still has the same sleek style with a similar look of the home screen Icons like the Message, Dial Pad, Menu, and of course the Phone Book icons.

This Phone is equipped with an enhanced touch screen with a rotating display. It also comes with a detachable QWERTY key board. As for the camera, it has a 2.0 mega pixel camera lens with auto focus, flash, and picture video editing. Of course it has the full HTML Browser. Last, but not least it has 3 customizable home screens.
I just can’t wait to see what kind of commercials and different advertisements Verizon has in store for the new touch screen phone. I am very curious to see what people have to say when they find out about this new mobile device. The only downfall that I could say is that the phone only has a 2.0 mega pixel camera instead of the 3.2 like the LG Dare. As far as the other bells and whistles go, they all look very appealing.

With all this talk about the new upcoming LG Versa, it makes me wonder how much longer the LG Dare is going to be around on the shelves for....
Theres no telling how much longer the LG Dare is going to hold up in 2009, especially with all of these new touchscreen smartphones hitting the market. One thing I can say is that I’m pretty confident that the LG Dare will still do well mostly because, recently, it has been the most advertised mobile device from Verizon Wireless.
Even since the BlackBerry Storm was released, I still saw a lot more advertisements of the LG Dare verses the new Storm. Although I have a feeling that it’s going to be a whole new ball game once Verizon releases the upcoming LG Versa. It’s kind of hard to say though because the Versa only has a 2.0 mega pixel camera.
As far as the Dare itself, I would say that it is definitely a favorite phone for a lot of people. Those who have Verizon Wireless will absolutely be thinking about getting the LG Dare opposed to all of the other options that Verizon has. Until they come out with a phone that has a 3.2 mega pixel camera or better and other cool capabilities, I don’t think the Dare has any thing to worry about.
