Aside from Sprint adding more capacity to their netrations, work in and around Washington, DC, Sprint will be working their heads off to ensure that this day out of all, goes problem free as can be. Sprint will be enhancing networks at ey locations around Philadelphia, Wilmington, Del., and Baltimore. The will also have more in-building coverage around the National Mall, Capitol Hill, high traffic areas like the Museum of National History and the Inaugural Ball locations. Sprint will be optimizing network capacity near Washington, DC train stations, Adams Morgan, Georgetown, and Dupont Circle. Sprint is also going to have SatCOLTs which are satellite cell cites on light trucks, and Emergency Response Teams ERTs.
On top of all these extreme measures, Sprint is letting people know that on the day of the Inauguration, between 10am through 5pm they can stop by the Sprint Retail Store and grab a cup of coffee while they charge up their cellphones. The Sprint Store on 14th Street is the only one that will be offering free coffee and pastry and giving everyone a chance to charge up their cellphones so they wont miss out on important moments, or notices at this historical event. Sprint is calling it the Warm-Up and Charge-Up Inauguration Day Event. Heres a clipping form Sprints press release:
Sprint has the answer to both dilemmas. Parade-goers are encouraged to stop by Sprints retail location at 14th Street to warm-up with a free cup of coffee and pastry and while there take a moment to charge up their cell phone so they dont miss that cant miss picture, text message or call.
Sprint surely cant make it any better for peeps attending on inauguration day. Are they trying to make up for their bad rep as a company? Anyway, apparently Sprint did pretty well on New Years Eve at Times Square and in Washington, DC, which indicates that they should do well at the Inauguration next week.

Have a look at this image from BGR for the BlackBerry Bold device known as the BlackBerry Niagara for the Sprint network CDMA version of course.
These images actually look like a cross between the Bold and the yet to be launched in the USA, BlackBerry Curve 8900.
What are the chances that this device, supposedly set to launch in the 1st Quarter of this year actually does so? Lets see if we find out anything more at CES next week.
As far as the BlackBerry Niagara phone specs - very similar to the BlackBerry Bold: full QWERTY keypad, 480 x 360 display, EV-DO Rev. A, aGPS, WiFi and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Theres also a possibility of HSPA world-roaming.

Just in time for the holidays! Sprint and Verizon now have one of the all-around great smartphones for free, the Palm Centro. Sprint has it avalable in pink, red, and black, and green while Verizon is only doing the blue version. The phone is free with a new Verizon or Sprint contract. You can find the Verizon free phone offer here, and you can also check out other companies offering the Centro at a lower-than-usual price. Sprints offer is available on their website. The centro is a good smartphone, its like the Toyota of cellphones. Its not exactly as luxurious as others, but they do look nice and work even better. The centro is good for text messaging, e-mailing, and it sports a 2.2" touchscreen. It would be a great gift for someone this holiday.

3G was definitely the it thing this year and every smartphone coming out with 3G speeds has been amazingly fast for emails and web browsing. However, 4G is already here if you can believe it. On December 21 Sprint stores will start carrying a CDMA/WiMAX modem that will sell for $150 with a two-year service contract. This baby is 4G and speeds that are up to 4-5 times faster than the fastest 3G. Amazing technology.....
Sprint Nextel said users should see speeds on WiMAX of 2 - 4 megabits per second, while its CDMA network users should see speeds of 600 Kbps - 1.4 Mbps.

Sprint lost $326 million last quarter and now they are getting sued by 19000 of their, current and former, sales employees. Some say that they were shortchanged for their sales commission during the merger of Sprint and Nextel. Each of these employees were shorthanded between $100-$500 a month. According to the lawsuit this happened due to computer problems when Sprint and Nextel merged backend systems. Predictions of the employees legal team, are that Sprint might lose over $5 million in due to this lawsuit. Sprint has denied allegations, saying that they have always paid and fulfilled each employees financial obligation. A US Federal Judge from court of Kansas has ordered Sprint to make a list consisting of the names of people that might have been affected, by Dec. 22nd. Sprint is now working with the court to figure out exact amounts as to what each employee may be owed.

After the Halloween horror of a shaky stock market, thank goodness its almost time for Thanksgiving! And just in time, Sprint and Verisign Messaging and Mobile Media delivered the perfect gift for Sprint customers.
All you Sprint customers can now send digital photos and videos directly from your phones and get them published on popular media sites like MySpace, Photobucket and YouTube.
Its as easy as saying ‘cheese’. Just click the photos or record videos from anywhere and upload them at once to your media site account and share it with family & friends who can view it anytime.
The speed of the Now Network has made this service possible said Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint.
The Verisign Xoomerang platform helps the Picture Mail enhancement to upload pictures and video from the Sprint phone to a social media site. Xoomerang is essentially a mobile media enablement solution. Manna from heaven, for those who are hooked on to online social networking sites and other destinations in the virtual world.
More than 30 Sprint phones can be used to post photos to the media sites. Samsung Instinct, LG’s Rumor, MOTORAZR2 from Motorola, and SANYO’s Katana DLX are all in the list. Sprint Picture Mail subscribers with compatible phones can enjoy unlimited use of the new service. Customers on Sprint’s worry-free $99.99 Simply Everything plan also stand to benefit from this service.
Ready, Set, Go.
Take high quality pictures, send it to other phones and email addresses in one step or organize them and edit them on your online albums. As if this is not enough you can just send a photo from the phone itself to a Walgreen store or a Sprint retail store and get it printed and may be pick it up on the way home too.
A little more on Sprint’s efforts to promote mobile social awareness. Sprint’s Ready Now program guides customers on all the features and applications available on their phones and also explains the Sprint Picture Mail and all what the Now Network can do for them. Social media sites and their usage will be explained to customers through the 4NetSafety program. Sprint aims to throw light on Internet safety concerns and enlighten both parents and children on this issue.

I went to the Sprint website to browse for a smartphone for holiday gifting. The options are a bit limited with this carrier for a good all around phone and the two best ones that I saw are coincidentally made by the same company, HTC. Check out this link for full list of Sprints smartphones.

So, the price difference between the 2 phones, with a 2yr contract, of course, is $50. The HTC Touch Pro regular price is $579.99 minus $180 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate which comes to $299 for the phone with a 2 year agreement. The Touch Diamond is $549.99 minus a $200 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate which comes to $249 for the phone with a 2 year agreement.

What really is the difference between these 2 devices? Not that much when you compare them side by side on the Sprint website. The only benefit for the HTC Touch Pro that I see is that it has an external memory slot, which can make a difference if you run out of memory on your phone.
