Fommy Product Review:
Overview: Going out of town, to a hotel, or to the beach but dont want to be tethered to your headset the whole time while on vacation? You need a set of speakers. If you dont want to carry around a boombox with you in your luggage, latest compact travel speakers may be a great choice for you.
Durability: First of all, the unit is made out of plastic and it definitely has a "plastic" weight and feel, but once you look past that it has a surprisingly good build quality. There really isnt any parts that could wear out if treated properly, just a few hinges, controls and some electronics. The unit does fold out for use and the plastic panels on the side used to direct sounds have the added benefit of protecting the delicate speakers when not in use from damage.
Design/Functionality: To use the device, you simply fold it out from its original magnetically held rectangle box all the way, insert batteries or a power adapter, plug in your compatible device that uses a 3.5mm audio jack into the audio in port, turn it on and play some music. That description probably made it sound more complicated than it actually is; point being, setup is a snap. When youre done, you just unplug it and fold it back into its original shape with a few quick movements, and the hidden magnet keeps it that way. It does look pretty good and comes in black and white, although I think the black one looks a tad nicer and matches more devices.
The volume goes quite loud, several times louder than any devices normal speaker in fact. In addition, the fold-out panels help to deliver clear, directed audio.
As far as audio options go, you are restricted to using a 3.5mm headjack, so if your device has one of those common ports, youre good to go; if you dont, you can surely find an adapter. As well as having an audio in port, it also has an audio out as well.
You have a couple of power options, you can use 4 AA batteries, an AC adapter, or a USB to power adapter. It comes with the latter, but its a bit of a sore spot that this cool speaker set does not come with a regular old AC adapter (or batteries) which would make them very useful at home as well. But I do think it makes up for it a bit by including both the USB adapter and the 3.5mm headset cable.
Conclusion: If youre looking for a great set of compact travel speakers that are compatible with almost every audio device, this is a great, affordable choice.
